What comes to your mind when you hear the word believe? Believe, to have confidence or faith in, is my favorite word, especially when it comes to my students with autism. When I first began teaching, frustration took the best of me as I did not feel my students were progressing as fast as I anticipated them to. As I continued to strive for each student's success, music was noticeably loved by every student. This has inspired me to design and implement my own educational program called "Learn Our Way."
"Learn Our Way" was developed when I found that music, along with carefully selected visual materials, have been an excellent means for my students to reach numerous objectives across curriculum. Not only has the program been found beneficial in the classroom, it has also become a useful resource for parents to continue education in their own home. The method used, incorporates simplified educational songs and developmentally appropriate visual aides to capture a child's attention. The visual aides included in each kit per song, not only grasp the attention of the learners and make an exciting learning experience for the children, it also focuses on developing academic skills, receptive and expressive language, eye contact, following simple directions and more.
With a strong sense of optimism, I believe that together we CAN make a difference and continue to raise Autism awareness and help parents and educators find the right resources to help their children succeed.
