Occupational therapyIt is a non progressive neuromuscular disorder causing mild to severe disabilities throughout life. This condition is manifested as a group of persisting qualitative motor disorders which appear in young children due to damage to the brain during delivery or due to some pathological conditions in the intrauterine life. The neurological problems are multiple but non progressive in nature. Approximately 2 per 100 live births are having this problem. This disease is having no hereditary tendency. I have found MANY families (parents and
individual adults) seeking alternative treatments for many
disorders including parents of children with CP and adults living
with Cerebral Palsy. I think I can make a statement that is all
inclusive that the goals are about finding alternatives to IMPROVE
QUALITY OF LIFE! I knew a grandfather who had custody of his
grandchild. He created so many new contraptions to help her. He was
amazing. He knew as her caregiver what she needed and when they
couldn’t find something they could buy he made it.
People in general really take for granted
things that they do daily. Maybe even some parents without meaning
to do so. I know no matter what challenges a child is facing
parents worry about what will happen to their children without
them. I mean what is the role of a parent other than to prepare
their child for adulthood. For some families that is significantly
more complicated than for others. Quality of life is nota fancy
house or clothes and gourmet foods or video games. Its walking
talking, toileting, showering! Communicating needs and wishes! I
am sure the list can go on. How many parents out there have been
told “your child will never…. Walk, see, talk, FEEL and EXPRESS.
I commend those parents out there seeking alternatives to improve
the quality of life for their child(ren). There are those who
criticize parents not out on the warpaths, however there is no place
for that here. And there are those who criticize parents that do
and again there is no place for criticism here. We are all on
different journeys.
